Bangladesh ready to produce Covid-19 vaccine: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday said Bangladesh is ready to produce Covid-19 vaccine to contain the pandemic.

“Bangladesh is ready to produce vaccine and it is final stage of setting up laboratory in producing the vaccine to contain Covid-19,” she said.

The premier came up with the assertion while addressing a press conference over her recently-concluded visit to the United States to attend the 76th United Nations General Assembly at Ganobhaban in the capital.

She added: “Now we want a formula for making vaccines and the foreign minister spoke with the global platform Gavi and the World Health Organization.”

“Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals are exporting to more than 100 countries around the world. So, we want to make a coronavirus vaccine. I believe we can produce it,” she said.

Regarding the repatriation of Rohingyas, she told the journalists that Bangladesh demanded the repatriation of Rohingyas to the international community on an urgent basis.

The PM said although Bangladesh has sheltered Rohingyas on humanitarian grounds with limited resources and various adversities. “We have been shocked by the inaction of major international powers in resolving the crisis. I have proposed to the international partners to return them to Myanmar with security and dignity,” she said.
