More 82,000 Rohingya refugees who took shelter in Bangladesh will be relocated from Cox's Bazaar to Bhasanchar in Noakhali this month, said State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Dr. Enamur Rahman.

He made the remarks while talking to locals in the Parbatinagar area of Savar on Friday (October 8) at noon.

State Minister Dr. Enamur Rahman further said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has set a unique example to the world by giving shelters to the Rohingyas fleeing from Myanmar in Bangladesh.

About 11 lakh Rohingya, who fled persecution in Myanmar four years ago, are now living in refugee camps in Cox's Bazaar.

As their repatriation was stalled, the government started relocating some of them to Bhasanchar, an island in the Meghna estuary near Hatiya.

The infrastructure of 120 cluster villages has been constructed on the 13,000-acre char and more than one lakh people can be accommodated.

The relocation of Rohingyas to Bhasanchar had begun on December 4 amid opposition from international organizations, including the United Nations. So far, the government has relocated 18,334 refugees in six phases.
