Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has said that election violence cannot be stopped by guarding houses and neighborhoods.

The CEC made the remarks in the wake of tensions, clashes and violence in various areas surrounding the second phase of the Union Parishad (UP) elections after the 89th Commission meeting at the Election Building in Agargaon on Wednesday (November 10) afternoon.

Referring to the clashes in several incidents including Narsingdi, he said, "Such incidents cannot be stopped by guarding like this, the reality is this." Such unpleasant incidents cannot be stopped by guarding the houses with the help of police. The only way to do that is to tolerate the people involved in the election. Must behave election friendly.

The CEC said many incidents have been area-based. Besides, many such incidents have taken place due to party quarrels and previous animosities. Who will be responsible for all this now? Tolerance is needed to stop electoral violence. For this, the cooperation of all the supporters of the political party candidates is needed. He also said that the tension in the local elections was a manifestation of rivalry.
