1 crore 9 lakh farmers of the country will get smart agriculture card. This smart card will be given to give incentives to the real farmer and to monitor what kind of crop the farmer grows in the field. After that all the farmers of the country will get this card in phases.

The project will be presented to the Executive Committee (ECNEC) meeting of the National Economic Council on Tuesday for final approval. The total proposed cost of the project is Tk. 107.92 crore. The project will be implemented by September 2024.

Initially, smart agriculture cards will be issued in 9 districts. The districts are Gopalganj, Sunamganj, Tangail, Barishal, Jashore, Dinajpur, Rajshahi, Bandarban and Mymensingh. The project will be implemented in 86 areas in the upazilas and metropolitan areas of these districts.

The project will ensure area and demand based agriculture services for each farmer using Smart Agriculture Card as a digital identity and exchange of necessary agricultural information through digital analysis and management of agricultural information.

Officials from the Department of Agricultural Extension's Department of Agricultural Economics and Planning, Project Implementation and ICT Wing said the bank faces various problems when it comes to providing incentives to farmers. Besides, many farmers have lost 10 taka agricultural card. For these reasons, smart agriculture cards will be given to crores of farmers initially. After that all the farmers of the country will come under the project in phases. Through this, crop field monitoring will be done digitally at field level.
