Prime Minister sends a letter of condolence to Modi on Lata’s death

In a letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (February 7), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep condolences to the Government and people of India at the death of Bharat Ratna Lata Mungeshkar.

"The people of Bangladesh are expressing their solidarity with the people of India at this moment of mourning," she said.

Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said this.

Sheikh Hasina said the late Lata Mungeshkar was a cultural icon and a legend and one of the most talented artists of all time.

The Prime Minister said Lata has sung innumerable songs in different languages including Bengali with her extraordinarily melodious voice and has touched the hearts of millions of people in our region and beyond.

The Prime Minister said her Bangla songs are now an integral part of the repertoire of Bengali culture.

She remembered Lataji's role in the liberation war of Bangladesh with deep respect and gratitude. She added that Lataji, along with her Indian co-artists, had been instrumental in promoting Bangladesh among the people of India.

The Prime Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul of Bharat Ratna Lata Mungeshkar.

Sheikh Hasina expressed her deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and millions of fans of the artist around the world and prayed for their strength to bear this irreparable loss.
