Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), said that it has been decided to introduce 'Dhaka Nagar Paribahan' on three more routes in the second phase to restore order in the public transport of the capital.

He gave the information in a briefing after the 21st meeting of Bus Route Rationalization at Nagar Bhaban of DSCC on Monday (February 7) afternoon.

The three new routes are from Ghatarchar in Keraniganj to Narayanganj Bhulta via Farmgate in the capital, Bochhila from Ghatarchar to Mohammadpur, Meghna Ghat in Kanchpur via Sciencelab and from Ghatarchar to Narayanganj via Kakrail in the capital.

Asked when the service would be launched on the three new routes, Mayor Tapas said 65 more buses would be launched soon. This will solve the crisis. Moreover, since this project is for the purpose of serving the passengers, the problem will be solved at any cost. At the same time, passenger sheds are being constructed on that route.

Asked about the amount of profit-loss on the launched route, Sheikh Tapas said, "Profit-loss is not being calculated now." Since it has just started, I would like to make sure that the service is maintained for the time being without looking at profit and loss. No investment can be expected from the beginning. However, in the present situation, it is understood that both profit and loss are equal. There is hope for future profits.

Earlier, on December 26 last year, Dhaka Nagar Paribahan was launched with 50 buses on the Kanchpur route from Ghatarchar. Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam was virtually connected in the meeting.

Also present at the meeting were Additional Commissioner (Traffic) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Munibur Rahman, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Authority-BRTA Nur Mohammad Majumder, Chairman of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation Md. Tajul Islam, Secretary General of Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association Khandaker Enayet Ullah, Executive Director of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority Khandaker Rakibur Rahman and others.
