Mango plucking begins in Rajshahi

Like every year, the district administration has decided the day to pluck mangoes from trees in Rajshahi. Small variety mangoes will be plucked from today Thursday at the fixed time.

In a meeting held in the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office, the possible date for the plucking of mangoes by variety was announced on Wednesday (May 3).

In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Shamim Ahmed said that from Thursday, all kinds of small varieties of mangoes will be plucked in Rajshahi. Apart from this, Gopalbhog will start from May 5, Lakshmanbhog or Lakhna and Rani Bhog from May 20 and Himsagar or Khirshapati plucking will start from May 25.

Langra will start from June 6 and Fazli mango will start from June 15. Amrapali plucking of hybrid varieties will start from June 10. Ashwina and Bari-4 and Gaurmati will start from July 10. Ilamati will start from August 20. All season varieties of Katimon and Bari mango-11 can be marketed throughout the year.

Sources in the District Agriculture Extension Department said that earlier the mango business was between Tk. 700-800 crore in a season. Mangoes were sold last year worth Tk. 1000 crore. This time it will exceed one and a half thousand crore taka.

Mozdar Hossain, Deputy Director of District Agriculture Extension Department, said that there has been a good yield of mangoes in Rajshahi this time. He said, last year, mango seeds were sold for 3,200 to 4,000 taka. Farmers will get good prices this time too. And the media played an important role in preventing the oppression of middlemen. If everything goes well, the mango market will remain normal.
