China wants Bangladesh to oppose unilateral sanctions: Ambassador

China's ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, said Beijing wants Dhaka to stand by China in opposing "unilateralism" while advocating for an open global economy.

Addressing as a keynote speaker at a symposium in the capital, he said, we should oppose protectionism, construction of 'walls and barriers', isolationism, unilateral sanctions.

The ambassador said that China and Bangladesh should build their relationship as a model of friendship among developing countries and contribute to building a human society with a common future.

We should preserve true multilateralism, promote greater democracy in international relations, and work together to make global governance more fair and impartial, he said. We advocate an open world economy and emphasize the promotion of trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. China and Bangladesh should deepen the strategic partnership and explore new growth areas for cooperation.

Beijing is willing to work with Bangladesh to continue exploring opportunities for cooperation under the Global Development Initiative (GDI), Global Security Initiative (GSI) and Global Civilization Initiative (GCI).

The ambassador said that they are willing to promote the process of digitization and standardization of industries in Bangladesh and to improve the quality and competitiveness of 'Made in Bangladesh'.

He said China has taken note of the recently released 'Indo-Pacific Outlook of Bangladesh' and believes that many of its ideas are similar to China's. The ambassador said that China supports Bangladesh in playing a more active and important role in regional and international affairs by safeguarding its foreign policy of independence.

The Cosmos Foundation organized this symposium titled 'Bangladesh-China Relations: Forecasting the Future' at a hotel. President of Cosmos Foundation Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury presided over the discussion meeting and Chairman Enayetullah Khan gave a welcome speech.
