The Election Commission has ordered Azmat Ulla Khan, the boat symbol candidate of the ruling Awami League, to appear in person and give an explanation for violating the election code of conduct.
On Sunday (May 7) at 3 pm, he was asked to appear at the election building in Agargaon in the capital to explain about the violation of the code of conduct. Claiming that he did not violate the code of conduct, Azmat Ulla Khan said that he will appear at the election building on time to give an explanation as per the instructions of the EC.
Meanwhile, Jahangir Alam is going to the High Court today to get back his candidacy for the post of Mayor in the Gazipur City Corporation elections. The Election Commission canceled his nomination papers as he was a loan defaulter. He is going to the High Court hoping to get the nomination back.
Though he did not get the party nomination, Jahangir did not withdraw from the election race. He submitted nomination papers as an independent candidate. But the returning officer Faridul Islam canceled his nomination on Sunday due to loan default. Jahangir appealed to the Divisional Commissioner against this decision. Last Thursday afternoon Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Md. Sabirul Islam also upheld the returning officer's order canceling Jahangir's nomination due to default.
In this regard, Jahangir said, even though all my documents are valid, the appeal has been rejected. That is why I will go to the High Court on Sunday. I hope there will be justice.
