162nd birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore observed in Faridpur

The 162nd birth anniversary of great poet and first Asian Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore was observed here on Monday by various socio-cultural and literary organizations of this town in a befitting manner.

In this connection Faridpur district administration organized a discussion meeting, recitation and cultural functions at local Shishu Academy auditorium in the evening.  

DC of Md. Quamrul Ahsan Talukdar PAA was the chief guest in the function while ADC (Gen) MD. Yasin Kabir presided.

Among others the discussion meeting was participated by Police Super Md. Shahjahan PPM, eductionist Prof. Md. Shahjahan, Sadar Upazilla chairman Abdur Razzak Molla, Cultural activist and poet Shawkat Ali Zahid, Cultural activist and feminist worker Asma Akhtar Mukta and freedom fighter Aminur Rahman Farid.      

Discussants spoke on the various sides of the life and works of Poet Tagore highlighting the fact that our national anthem composed by Tagore worked as a great inspiration during our liberation war. Speakers mentioned that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had great likings for Tagore’s creations. The discussants also mentioned the versatile genius of Tagore who contributed enormously for enriching Bangla literature. There was no side left where this great poet did not contribute. They mentioned that through his immortal writings the great poet gave the Bangalees a separate identity in the globe.

The discussion was followed by recitations from Tagore, dance based on Tagore songs. A musical soiree followed the recitation program.
