Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman received the Julio Curie Peace Award on May 23 1973. The 50th anniversary of Bangabandhu’s receiving the Julio Curie Award will be celebrated on May 23 this year. To celebrate the day, discussions should be organized in all schools and colleges as well as in Madrasas. The Directorate of Madrasa Education has given such instructions.
On Wednesday (May 10) Deputy Director of the Directorate Zakir Hossain signed instructions signed said as followes, it is requested to hold a discussion meeting in Madrasas of all levels with due dignity and festival mood on May 23, the 50th anniversary of the Julio Kuri Peace Award of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The World Peace Council announced Bangabandhu as the recipient of the Julio Curie Peace Award on October 10, 1972. And the next year on May 23, the then Secretary General of the Parishad, Ramesh Chandra, presented the medal to Bangabandhu in a grand ceremony of the Asian Peace Conference. On that occasion, Ramesh Chandra said, 'Bangabandhu is not only of Bengal, he is of the world and he is Vishwabandhu.'
It was the first international medal won by a state leader in independent Bangladesh.
