The water level of the Kaptai lake is rising due to continuous rains for a few days and the hill slopes coming down from the upstream. In this, the authorities have started a total of five units, including four units of the closed Kaptai hydro power plant.

From Sunday (August 6) morning, 16 spillways have been opened to 6 inches and 9 thousand cusecs of excess water is being removed per second.

Karnaphuli Hydro Power Plant Manager Engineer ATM Abduzzaher confirmed the matter. He said that if the water in the lake increases, the power generation will increase. He also said that all the generated electricity is being transmitted to the national grid.

According to control room sources of Kaptai Hydropower Station, according to the rule curve (measurement of water), the water in the lake is expected to be 90.60 feet Mean Sea Level (MSL) at this time. But the water in the lake is 82.90 feet (MSL). Kaptai Lake has a water holding capacity of 109 feet MSL.

Engineer ATM Abduzzaher said that the water in Kaptai lake is increasing due to continuous rains and landslides. Due to this, all the five units of the center are operational. Currently, 135 MW of electricity is being produced from here.

Four out of the five units of the center remained closed despite being functional even for the last few days due to lack of water. At that time only 25 megawatts of electricity was generated per unit.
