Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's wife Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatun Necha Mujib's 93rd birth anniversary today is today (Tuesday). Bangamata was born on August 8, 1930 in the Tungipara village of the then Gopalganj sub-division. Her nickname was Renu. Her father's name is Sheikh Zahurul Haque and mother's name is Hosne Ara Begum. She was the youngest among one brother and two sisters. On the night of August 15, 1975, she was brutally martyred by the killers of the Father of the Nation.

President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages.

Apart from government programs on the day, various political and social organizations including Awami League and its affiliated organizations organized tributes, discussion meetings and Milad Mahfil. Bangladesh Television, Bangladesh Betar and other electronic media will broadcast special programs on the occasion of the day.

Bangladesh gained independence through a long struggle under the leadership of Bangabandhu. Fazilatun Nessa Mujib was the motivation behind this fight-struggle-movement. She followed Bangabandhu's entire political life like a shadow and was a source of inspiration in his every work. When Bangabandhu was repeatedly living his life as a prisoner in the hands of the Pakistani rulers after the declaration of the six-point charter of the liberation of the Bengali nation, the leaders and activists of the Awami League used to run to Fazilatun Nessa Mujib. She used to convey various directions of Bangabandhu to them and inspire them to continue the struggle.

In the Agartala Conspiracy Case, Bangabandhu was proposed to grant release on parole to the Round Table Conference convened by dictator Ayub Khan. Then Begum Mujib's firm stance against parole accelerated Bengal's liberation struggle. Following the ideals of husband Bangabandhu like a shadow, Begum Mujib did many risky things in her life, because of which she had to suffer a lot.

Due to the devotion, patriotism, visionary thinking, intelligence and bravery that Begum Mujib has shown in the movement and struggle of the people of this country, she is today sitting on the seat of Bangamata along with the Father of the Nation. She will forever be remembered for her unique general role in the politics of this country. This noble woman was brutally murdered on August 15 with the family of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by the bullet of the murderer.

On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib, Awami League, affiliated organizations including Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Awami League will pay tribute, Quran Khatam, Milad and Doa Mahfil at Banani Cemetery at 8 am.

Besides, on the occasion of Bangmata's birth anniversary, the Awami Jubo League will hold a discussion meeting on the theme of 'Inspiration given, strength given by Vijay-Lakshmi women'. Dhaka Metropolitan South Awami League will distribute food to orphans at Sir Salimullah Muslim Orphanage after 2 pm. Dhaka Metropolitan North and South Sramik League will hold a discussion meeting at 3 pm.

Apart from this, Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad will organize a day-long free health camp in Tungipara. Bangladesh Chhatra League will celebrate the birth anniversary of Bangamata Shaheed Sheikh Fazilatun Necha Mujib and the student rally titled 'Bangladesh Mother, Leader of Bangladesh'.
