Five people including four children lost their lives in Rangamati flood waters

According to the latest information, at least five people have died after drowning in the water of the hill stream that came down from the upstream during the days of torrential rain.

The bodies of these five people were recovered from Thursday morning to night. Among the dead are four children and a 35-year-old man. Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Baghaichhari Rumana Akhter confirmed the death of five people.

The bodies of four persons were recovered on the same day in Baghaichhari of Rangamati. The local upazila administration has confirmed that three children and a youth are among the rescued.

The dead bodies of these four people were recovered from the flowing water of Kaptai Lake in Baghaichhari between Thursday morning and evening. UNO also confirmed that another child named Milki Chakma, a 7-year-old resident of Baghaichhari, died at around 10:30 pm.

On Thursday afternoon, Kaola Tripura (35) from the bank of the river in Machalang Dipupara area, Rahul Barua (10) from Karengatuli area of Bengaltali Union and a child named Jewel (7) from Ugalchari Bill, 5 km from the upazila headquarters, and another 7-year-old named Milki Chakma. UNO confirmed that one body has been recovered.

Three people, including two children, went missing in Baghaichari on Tuesday and Wednesday as a result of continuous rain for several days.

After the bodies of the three were recovered from Thursday morning to afternoon, one more child named Juni Chakma (7) drowned in the water in the Hirachar area of Khedarmara Union of Baghaichari in the evening. According to the UNO, Milky Chakma's death was reported at 10:00 p.m. last night.

Meanwhile, Baghaichhari Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rumana Akhter rushed to the spot after receiving news of the recovery of the dead bodies and consoled the families of the victims and provided Tk. 20,000 and food assistance to each family.

On the same day, a total of five bodies, including four children, were recovered in Baghaichhari upazila.
