Youth sentenced to 26 years imprisonment in arms case

The tribunal sentenced a young man named Rakibul to 26 years imprisonment under two separate sections of the Arms Act in the case of recovering weapons and bullets from Motijheel area of the capital.

He was sentenced to 16 years in the case of arms recovery and 10 years in the case of recovery of bullets. The order mentions that the two sentences will run concurrently. In two cases, the court mentioned in the order that he will have to suffer the maximum sentence.

Judge Mohammad Morshed Alam of Dhaka Metropolitan Special Tribunal-14 passed the verdict on Sunday (September 17).

The accused was absconding at the time of the verdict. For this reason, the court issued an arrest warrant against him.

According to the details of the verdict, the illegal weapons recovery and prevention team of the DB Police raided the Shapla Chatwar area of Motijheel in a passenger bus on September 27, 2014 at around 11:30 pm on the basis of secret information. Four pistols, 8 magazines and 12 rounds of ammunition were recovered from Rakibul.

During the trial of the case, the court heard the testimony of 8 people.
