The Ministry of Health has approved the purchase of 20 lakh IV fluid saline in emergency situations to deal with the dengue situation. It will cost Tk. 29 crore 19 lakh.
On Sunday (September 17) a circular signed by Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Health Mu Anowar Hossain Howladar gave this information.
It said that in-principle approval has been given to the procurement proposal by Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL) under the Directorate of Health Services following the Direct Procurement Method (DPM).
It is also said that the number of dengue patients across the country has increased due to the increase in the spread of dengue mosquitoes due to the abundance of rains during the monsoon season. Due to this there is shortage of IV fluid across the country. At this stage, in order to deal with the disaster, there is a need to purchase twenty lakh more pieces of IV fluid following the direct procurement method (DMP) for the treatment of dengue patients in government hospitals across the country.
It should be noted that the essential medicines required for all the specialized level hospitals starting from community clinics all over the country are purchased directly from Essential Drugs Company Limited (EDCL). According to the decision of the committee formed in that consideration, the purchase decision is taken through EDCL
