Clash centered on boat race in Tangail, 10 injured

The boat race that took place at the initiatives of Tangail-2 (Bhuyapur-Gopalpur) Constituency Member of Parliament Chhota Monir ended in clashes between two groups of boatmen. At least 8/10 people were reported injured. The injured were rescued and sent to Upazila Health Complex.

On Wednesday (September 20) the second day of the boat race, the clash took place during the boat race at Kukadai area of Gobindasi Jamuna river ghat of the upazila. There have been several consecutive chases and counter chases.

 It is known that a two-day long boat race was held at Govindasi's Jamuna river ghat area, like every year, on the initiative of Member of Parliament Chhota Monir. On the second day on Wednesday, the boat race of Nikrail's 'Jamuna Tari' and Gabsara's Kalipur's 'Allah Bharsa' started.

The boat named 'Allah Bharsa' clashed with the two boatmen because it was following the boat of 'Jamuna Tari'. Meanwhile, when the 'Allah Bharsa' boat overturned in the middle of the river, the boatmen swam to the shore. Later, clashes broke out with the two groups. In this, several rounds of chase and counter-chase occurred. 8-10 people were injured in the clash.

Meanwhile, at the end of the boat race, 'Jamuna Tari' was declared the first winner and another clash occurred in the evening. The stage was reportedly attacked even after the guests left the stage.

Md. Abdul Karim, member of the steering committee of the 'Jamuna Tari' boat and member of Nikrail UP, said that because the boatmen of 'Allah Bharsa' lost, they attacked the boatmen of the 'Jamuna Tari'. 8-10 people were injured. They were rescued and sent to Bhuyapur Hospital.

Dulal Hossain Chokder, chairman of the boat race organizing committee and chairman of Gobindasi Union Parishad, said that during the race, there was a clash between two groups of boatmen.

Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Dr. Sumaiya said that one person has been admitted in connection with the clash on the boat. Besides, another person has received treatment.

In this incident, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhuyapur police station, Md. Ahsan Ullah, was contacted several times on the mobile phone, but he did not receive the call.
