The first phase RCC casting work of Reactor Compartment of Internal Containment (protective) of the first unit of Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant Project has been done. The construction of this containment will be done in some phases.
Chief Engineer of this project Yuri Khushilov has mentioned it as a mile stone of 2019 of Ruppur Power plant project.
1145 cubic meter high quality RCC has been used in this work that led the height of reactor building to more than 6 meters. He informed that the setting of the main equipment’s of the reactor compartment of the first unit will begin from 2020.
In the safety of the nuclear power plant this internal containment is an important part which prevents the radiation hazards in nearby areas in case of any emergency. Internal Containment is a cylinder sized frame with a semi- circular dome on the top. The wall of the containment is 1.2 meter thick with a height of 73 meters. The internal containment is protected by another strong frame known as external containment.
Two units are being set up at Ruppur nuclear power plant. Each unit will have third generation Russian VVER -1200 reactor. General contractor of the 2400 MW nuclear power project is Russian State Nuclear Power Corporation Rosatum Engineering branch Atoms troy Export.
