As police failed to take proper measures regarding the mass gathering centering the Namaz- e -Janaza of a local Islamic scholar Mowlana Zubair Ahmed Ansari, the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Sarail circle Masud Rana has been withdrawn after the Officer in Charge (OC) of Sarail police station Shahdat Hossain’s withdrawal in the same incident. At the same time, the police headquarters constituted a three-member committee to investigate the incident.
Assistant Inspector General of Police Headquarters Sohail Rana confirmed the matter on Sunday (April 19) to barta24.com.
Earlier on Saturday (April 18), Sarail OC Shahadat Hossain was withdrawn.
The Islamic scholar also Naeb –e- Amir of Khilafat Majlish, Mawlana Zubair Ahmed Ansari breathed his last in the evening at his residence at Markus area of the district on Friday (April 17). At the time of his death, he was 59 years old. His namaz 0e0 Janaza was held on Saturday morning at the Jamiya Rahmania Bertala Madrasa in Sarail.
About fifty thousand people took part in the Janaza violating lockdown. The Janaza rows spread along the part of Dhaka-Sylhet highway beyond the Madras area. Apart from the top Islamic scholars of the country and the district, the students of Madrasha and the common people attended the Janaza. There has been a storm of criticism all over the country in th social media and other media for violating the regulations of social distancing.
