Banks in red zones to remain shut

Bangladesh Bank has decided to hold transactions from 10 am to 2 pm to prevent corona infection. The bank branch can be kept open till 4 pm for performing ancillary activities of the bank after the transaction.

However, bank branches in Motijheel, Dilkusha, Agrabad and Khatunganj will remain open though theses areas are included in the red zone.

On Monday (June 15), Bangladesh Bank's Department of Off-site Supervision issued a circular with instructions in this regard.

It is learned that the government is dividing different areas into red, yellow and green zones based on the level of corona infection. The government has announced that there will be a general holiday in the red and yellow zones. In this context, the central bank has again changed the schedule of bank transactions.

According to the new instructions, the daily coronavirus-infection level whether medium or high the daily transaction schedule announced by the Department of Health and the concerned administration will be transacted from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The bank branch can be kept open till 4 pm for performing ancillary activities of the bank after the transaction.

Branches of scheduled banks located in the area will be generally closed. However, if there is any different instruction from the concerned administration regarding keeping the branch open, it will be possible to make limited transactions from 10 am to 12 noon with limited manpower.

And the bank branch can be kept open till half past one for carrying out ancillary activities of the bank after the transaction.

However, with the help of the concerned administration the activities of the Head Office and branches of the bank located in such areas should be continued from 10 am to 4 pm so that the activities of other branches of the bank are not disrupted.

Although Motijheel, Dilkusha, Agrabad and Khatunganj fall under the red zones, transactions can be kept open till 2 pm and open till 3 pm.

The branches of scheduled banks located in Yellow and Green Zone declared by the Directorate of Health, City Corporation, Deputy Commissioner should be kept open for all types of transactions from 10 am to 2 pm and the branch should be kept open till 4 pm for further ancillary activities.
