The US military will build a temporary port off the coast of the besieged Gaza Strip to boost humanitarian aid. So that large-scale humanitarian assistance can be provided.

The British media BBC reported this information quoting a senior US official.

The official said, US President Joe Biden will make this announcement in his State of the Union address.

The BBC reports that the temporary port will increase the flow of humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. It is also reported that it will take several weeks to establish the port.

The senior US official said that the protests in the streets of Washington are increasing due to the Israeli obstruction in the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. So we are not waiting any longer for the Israelis.

The initial shipment of aid will arrive in Gaza via Cyprus and security coordination with Israel, the official said.

Biden has already ordered the military to take on an emergency mission to build a port in Gaza and to work with partners, including like-minded countries, on humanitarian relief — something Biden will announce in his address to Congress on Thursday, officials said.

They also said that even if a port is built on the Gaza coast, there will be no US ground forces there. As a result, it is not clear who will ensure the safety of the aid by land. Therefore, there is a question whether this mission will be successful.

There are no deep water ports in Gaza. That's why the US has been looking for a way to ship emergency aid for weeks.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warned this week that children are dying of starvation in northern Gaza. More than 100 people were killed last week when an aid convoy was attacked as Gazans scrambled for aid.
