The International Navy is preparing for the operation on MV Abdullah
Police in Puntland region of the country said that the Somali police and the international navy are preparing for an operation to rescue the Bangladeshi flagged ship MV Abdullah with 23 sailors.
Reuters reported in a report on Monday (March 18) that the raid on the MV Abdullah was planned two days ago after Indian commandos raided the Maltese flag ship MV Rouen under the control of pirates and rescued 17 crew members unharmed.
On March 12, MV Abdullah was captured by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean on its way to the United Arab Emirates with 55,000 tons of coal from Mozambique. Pirates take control of the ship and take all 23 sailors hostage. The sailors are all Bangladeshis.
Puntland is a semi-autonomous region of Somalia, home to many pirate groups. Police forces in the area said they had learned of a plan for an international naval operation against pirates who had seized the MV Abdullah. That is why they are on high alert and ready to take part in operations.
Meanwhile, in the Indian Ocean, there may be a crisis of food and water for the 23 hostages of the Bangladeshi flag ship MV Abdullah, which is under the control of Somali pirates. Because pirates feed alongside hostage sailors, the demand for food and water on board has increased.
A sailor working on a commercial ship said that more than the days it takes to go from one port to another, more than one to two weeks of food is stored on the ship. But dry food is stored for a long time in case there may be delay in reaching the destination for any reason. MV Abdullah had a 25-day supply of food. Besides, there was 200 tons of fresh water. But the pirates also share in the food, which will soon dwindle.
Mizanul Islam, Media Adviser of Kabir Group, the owner of the hostage ship, said that if the bandits are contacted, the issue of food will be discussed at the beginning. We have also planned to provide food and water on board through a third party. Now the sooner the bandits are contacted, the more the matter can be discussed.
