Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bangladesh Interim government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus will attend the United Nations General Assembly session in New York. Dhaka has offered a side-lined meeting between Dr. Muhammad Yunus and Narendra Modi. However, New Delhi has not yet taken a decision in this regard.

People familiar with the matter on condition of anonymity told Hindustan Times, in an interview given to an Indian media at the beginning of this week. The comments made by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, it seems that there is no possibility of his meeting with Narendra Modi. As the reason, they said, in that interview. The comments made by Dr. Muhammad Yunus were not taken well by New Delhi.

According to the report, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will go to New York to attend the UN General Assembly session later this month. The Chief Adviser of the Interim government of Bangladesh Dr. Muhammad Yunus will attend the same session.  Dhaka has proposed to New Delhi to organize a meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the session. The Indian side has not yet decided on the proposal and Modi's agenda for the bilateral meeting in New York is yet to be finalized.

In an interview given to India's state-owned news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) this week, Dr. Yunus criticized the comments of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled to India, about the ongoing situation in Bangladesh. Dr. Muhammad Yunus. In an interview said, Bangladesh may seek her extradition. At the same time, the country should come out of the "narrative" of India that all other political parties except Sheikh Hasina's Awami League are "Islamists".

Dr. Muhammad Yunus said to PTI that if India wants to keep Sheikh Hasina until Bangladesh asks her back, then she should remain silent there. She is speaking and giving instructions while sitting in India. No one likes it in the country. It is not good for us or India.

India has not yet given any official response to this comment by the Chief Advisor to the Interim Government of Bangladesh. But the Indian officials said such comments are not conducive to good relations.

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina escaped to the country with India's permission at short notice in the face of the student uprising on August 5. She has been staying in the country since then. India's foreign ministry declined to comment on Bangladesh's possible extradition request. 

The United States has put Bangladesh in the list of risky countries. This information was found in a list published on the US State Department's X-Handle on Wednesday (September 4). It has been informed that 21 countries including Bangladesh have been red-listed in the fourth stage of travel warning.

Other than Bangladesh, the countries on the list are Afghanistan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Myanmar, Central African Republic, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela and Yemen.

On August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister due to the anti-discrimination movement and took refuge in India. A Level IV travel warning was issued on the US Embassy website the next day.

The warning said US citizens were advised not to travel to Bangladesh due to the risk of civil unrest, crime and terrorism. 

Retired former High Commissioners and Secretaries of Pakistan have commented that Pakistan's relationship with Bangladesh should be at a tolerant level. For this reason, they have prepared a roadmap for the development of relations with Bangladesh. He also handed over the strategy paper to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

After the recent political change in Bangladesh, the former Diplomats and Secretaries of Pakistan prepared this strategy paper.

According to the news, former Diplomats and Secretaries assigned to Bangladesh involved in the formulation of the strategy on Sunday (September 1) told The Express Tribune on condition of anonymity.

They said that they recently attended a meeting at the invitation of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. According to the recommendations of that meeting, they all prepared a strategy paper to improve relations with Bangladesh.

They said that after the change in political status of Bangladesh on August 5, an opportunity has been created to improve relations with Pakistan. During Sheikh Hasina's 15-year rule, Pakistan's relations reached rock bottom. Pakistan tried several times to improve relations with Dhaka, but because of Hasina, those efforts did not see success.

The daughter of Bangladeshi architect Sheikh Mujibur Rahman continues to maintain very close ties with India. She often discussed Pakistan with Delhi. Bangladesh's relations with India have been seriously affected by her departure. This is now the opportunity to improve Pakistan's relations with Bangladesh.

Former High Commissioners and Secretaries have advised Shehbaz Sharif that Pakistan can now certainly move forward with improving relations with Bangladesh, but with great caution and tact.

What the strategy might look like:

As for what the strategy might look like, they said, it would have to be very general. Can't take sides. It is said that the reason is that the common people of Bangladesh are very independent minded.

Regarding the reason for the fall of Sheikh Hasina, Pakistani leaders said that she was India's puppet. Because of that India had to pay a heavy price.

An official of Bangladeshi origin said that the people of Bangladesh are very independent minded. They do not like any country at all. That is why it will not be right to look at the development of relations with Bangladesh through the eyes of India. Pakistan should not have the kind of relationship that India is having with Bangladesh.

They also said that there are retired officers in Pakistan who are well versed in Bengali language. If 78-year-old Munir Akram can be Pakistan's Ambassador to the United Nations, why can't we appoint someone like that in Dhaka!

In this context, a retired bureaucrat said, there must be a change. We can consider Dhaka as a center. That means there can be a qualified Commissioner post.

Incidentally, after Sheikh Hasina's departure, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has been able to have high-level contacts with Dhaka. He spoke to Bangladesh's Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus on Friday (August 30). This was the highest level contact with Bangladesh after many years. Besides, the foreign secretaries of Bangladesh and Pakistan met on the sidelines of the OIC conference.

Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) arrested Haji Mohammad Selim, a former JS member of Dhaka-7 constituency, from his residence in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan DB Police Joint Commissioner (North)Rabiul Hossain Bhuyia confirmed the matter. He said, a team of DB police arrested him. There are several cases against him.

DB sources said he was wanted by the DB police in several cases filed against him. At night he was arrested from Banshal and taken to DB office. He will be produced in court on Monday (September 2) morning after being shown arrested in a case.
