Mpox diagnosed in Thailand
Empox has been detected in Thailand this time. Monkeypox (mpox) virus has been detected in the body of a European citizen. The infected person traveled to Thailand last week from Africa. Thai health officials reported this information.
This information was published in a report by Reuters on Wednesday (21 August).
According to the report, the Mpox virus was detected in the body of a European citizen who came to Thailand. An official of the country's disease control said on Wednesday. He said that the results of the tests are awaited to know what type of Mpox the European citizen was infected with.
Authorities are treating this case as a clade-1 type of Mpox. Recently there has been concern about this form of MPOX because it can spread very quickly.
The infected person has been quarantined in a hospital. Several tests have already been done to identify the type.
The clade-1 strain of the highly contagious virus mpox is capable of rapid human-to-human spread through close contacts. Such causes of Mpox have created renewed concern around the world. Last week, a patient with the clade-1 type of pox was identified in the European country of Sweden.
The person identified in Sweden is believed to be related to such increasing outbreaks of Mpox in Africa. The first case of clade-1 type of Mpox outside the African continent was identified in Sweden.
Note that the World Health Organization (WHO) has also issued an emergency warning about MPOX. According to the WHO report, since 2022, 208 people have died from Mpox in 116 countries. Although its prevalence was initially high in African countries, the disease has recently spread to Europe and Asia.
