EC Alamgir said that this attempt was made towards the end of the polling to question the election.

He said that the election in Dhaka-17 constituency was very fair and peaceful. There was no irregularity anywhere. Voting ended at 4 pm. Towards the very last time a candidate (Hero Alam) visited the center. He tried to get in with his supporters and YouTubers. It was intercepted by the police, as he could not do that as per law. Four or five people including him were allowed to enter the center. He entered when he was returning when some miscreants attacked him. This is a very unfortunate, sad incident. It is by no means desirable.

The Election Commissioner said that after the incident of attack on the candidate, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) spoke to the Police Commissioner about the matter. He directed to immediately look at the video footage and inform the Election Commission about identifying other witnesses and taking legal action against them.

In response to the question of who is this failure of not being able to provide security. Alamgir said that the Election Commission is in overall responsibility. There is no opportunity to give direct 'practice'. The responsibility of providing this protection lies with the police and other law enforcement agencies. The police commissioner will see if there is any neglect of duty or not. Whether there was reluctance or not, they will inform the EC about departmental measures.
