Reminding visa policy US calls for dialogue among the three main parties
Ambassador Peter Haas is holding a meeting with the senior leaders of the country's 3 main political parties, reminding them that the position of the United States remains the same regarding the 12th Jatiyo Sangsad(JS) elections. Meanwhile, the ambassador will hand over a letter sent by US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu to the leaders of the three parties.
A message from the US Embassy on Monday (November 13) informed.
It said that the United States wants to see a free and fair election in Bangladesh in a peaceful environment. They called on all parties to refrain from violence and exercise restraint. The United States does not favor one political party against another, and calls on all parties to engage in unconditional dialogue.
The embassy's message also recalled that the pre-announced US visa policy would be enforced against those who would undermine the democratic electoral process in the circumstances that arise. US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu has written to the three main political parties, Awami League, BNP and Jatiyo Party, as part of the US's initiative to negotiate. US Ambassador to Dhaka, Peter De Haas, is handing over this letter to the parties urging them to hold fair elections in Bangladesh.
It is to be noted that the ambassador handed over the letter to Jatiyo Party Chairman GM Quader on Monday afternoon. In this connection, the secretary general of the Jatiyo Party Mujibul Haque Chunnu told reporters that US Ambassador Peter Haas came to our office to hand over a letter from US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu. The letter has been handed over to our chairman. This letter is not only ours but the same letter has been given to two other parties. The letter is very brief; it mentions a fair election in Bangladesh.
