Reaction of political parties to announcement of election schedule
Ever since the announcement of the schedule for the 12th Jatiyo Sangsad(JS) elections, there have been various reactions among the political parties. The ruling party Awami League welcomed the election schedule. On the other hand, BNP rejected.
After the Chief Election Commissioner's speech, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said in a press conference that there is no alternative to timely elections as per the constitution to accelerate the country's democratic continuity and political stability and ongoing economic development.
On the other hand, BNP, one of the main political parties in Bangladesh, has rejected the schedule for the 12th JS elections.
After the Election Commission announced the election schedule on Wednesday evening, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi informed the media about the rejection of the schedule.
This Election Commission knowingly announced the schedule to push the country into a deep crisis. Rizvi mentioned in his speech.
Rizvi also said in his speech that Sheikh Hasina's resignation and elections will be held under a non-partisan caretaker government.
After announcing the schedule, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir held a virtual briefing. Then his written statement was sent to the press.
Rizvi said, ignoring the expectations of Bangladesh, public opinion and international community, the election commission has announced the schedule of one-sided elections.
The Chief Election Commissioner said in his speech that he will conduct free, fair and participatory elections. It is false, hypocritical and fake. Believing in a fair election under Sheikh Hasina is like falling into a trap. The Election Commission announced the schedule at a time when the BNP and its like-minded parties are staging a boycott for elections under a neutral government. Many political leaders of government supporters are also participating in the distribution of sweets after the announcement of the schedule. On the other hand, the opposition supporters are causing protests and vandalism.
