Sheikh Hasina, the eldest daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Awami League president, has taken oath as the Prime Minister of people's Republic of Bangladesh Government for the fifth term. It is her fourth consecutive term as well. And through this he set a new precedent in the political history of the country. When the term of this government is completed, she will be recognized as the prime minister who has been running the state for 25 years in Bangladesh. It will be a record of independent Bangladesh. None of those who have served as the head of government in Bangladesh before had the opportunity to run the state for five terms.

Sheikh Hasina has been serving as the party chief of Awami League, one of the largest political parties in Bangladesh, for almost 43 consecutive years since 1981.

Awami League president Sheikh Hasina took oath as the Prime Minister of the country for the first time on June 23, 1996, 21 years after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975.

She took over as Prime Minister for the second time on January 6, 2009 when the Awami League-led grand coalition won an absolute majority in the ninth parliamentary elections on December 29, 2008. At the end of that tenure on January 5, 2014, when the grand coalition government led by Awami League won the 10th parliamentary elections, Hasina took oath as the Prime Minister for the third time on January 12.

Sheikh Hasina took oath as the Prime Minister for the fourth time on January 8, 2019 with an absolute victory in the 11th National Parliamentary elections.

Sheikh Hasina, the father of the nation Bangabandhu's eldest daughter and Awami League president, took oath as the Prime Minister for the fourth conservative term and the fifth term altogether on Thursday (January 11) with an absolute victory in the 12th parliamentary elections.

After seven o'clock on Thursday evening, President Md. Sahabuddin administered the oath for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Besides her roles as the premier, Sheikh Hasina was the leader of the opposition for four times in the national parliaments of Bangladesh. In the general elections held in 1986, Sheikh Hasina was elected as a Member of Parliament from three parliamentary constituencies. At that time she served as the leader of the opposition. After that election, the constitutional process started by withdrawing martial law from the country. In 1991, Sheikh Hasina was elected as the leader of the opposition in the Fifth National Parliament. Besides, in 2001, he served as the leader of the opposition in the Eighth National Parliament.

Sheikh Hasina is the the daughter of the
main leader of the freedom fight of Bangladesh, the father of the nation and the first president of the government of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Her mother's name is Begum Fazilatunnecha known as Bangamata. Sheikh Hasina was born on September 28, 1947 in Tungipara, Gopalganj. She is the eldest of the five children of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Begum Fazilatunnessa. She took her childhood education there. In 1954, she started living in Dhaka with her family in Rajni Bose Lane, Mughaltuli. Later went up to the official residence on Minto Road. In 1956, she was admitted to Nari Shiksha Mandir Balika Vidyalaya, Tikatuli. On October 1, 1961, she started staying at house number 32 in Dhanmondi.

When Bangabandhu's family was killed on August 15, 1975 in that house, Bangabandhu's two daughters, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana, survived because they were abroad. They spent the next 6 years in exile in London and Delhi.

Sheikh Hasina returned to the country on May 17, 1981 and took over as the president of Awami League. After five years, she was elected as a Member of Parliament. Sheikh Hasina was associated with politics since her student life. She passed BA from Dhaka University in 1973. She was elected a member of the Dhaka University Chhatra League and general secretary of the Rokeya Hall branch. While at the university in 1968, Sheikh Hasina got married to nuclear scientist Dr.
M Wazed Mia. Wazed Mia died on May 9, 2009. They have two children named Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul.
