JU teachers-students’ torch procession protesting rape
The teachers and students of the university held a torch procession to protest against the incident of gang-rape in Jahangirnagar University. About four hundred students participated in it.
On Sunday (February 4) at 7:30 pm, the torch procession started from Shaheed Minar of the university and ended with a short rally in front of the Vice-Chancellor's residence through the Mir Musharraf Hossain Hall, the Central Cafeteria, the female students' residential hall and the marginal gate.
At that time they were asked 'Why rape on campus, administration, wants answer', 'Against the audience, light fire together', 'Against the administration, light fire together', 'Bahannar Hatiyar gorjey utho ar ekbar', 'Action to action direct action', illegal students, Mani na manabo na', on both cheeks of the rapist, hit the shoes, clap clap', 'Why is my sister raped, the administration wants answer', etc. can be seen chanting slogans.
Arif Sohail, a student of International Relations department, said in the rally held in front of the vice-chancellor's residence after the torch procession, Jahangirnagar is not for rapists. We want to tell the administration that there is no place for the supporters of rapists in this campus. The common room culture of this university does not foster friendships. This is where the relationship between drugs and crime develops. The university has turned us into rapists by trapping us in the system. Common room culture changes a student's mindset. Explaining his mindset helps turn the bully into a bully.
Ahsan Labeeb, a student of the 49th batch of the university, said that the idea that female students are the safest in Jahangirnagar University is no longer the case in the campus rape incident. We want to emphatically say that bullies have no place on this campus. rascals who nurture rapists have no place either. The organization, the teacher, the eaters who support them should be expelled from the campus immediately.
Alif Mahmud, convenor of the university's student union JU branch (part), said that where the students of the university are not safe from the teachers, how can the outsiders be safe. When the students see that their teacher Mahmudur Rahman Johnny can take classes safely even after being a structured committee, where is the fault if they do it themselves? We see news of robberies, looting and extortion by the non-students of MH Hall. Even after repeated reminders to the administration, they do not take any action or hide the complaint. This is why Shah Paran is hiding but he was not arrested. This is how the rapists continue to survive under the umbrella of the administration. Basically the indifference of the administration is ruining the image of the university. An autonomous university is held hostage by some inhuman in the administrator's chair.
Monika Yasmin, a student of the International Relations Department, said that those first-year students who cannot speak properly when they come to the university, become bullies under the umbrella of a group. Find out who has the hand on the rapist's head. Rape must be eradicated.
Omar Farooq Bannah, a student of the English Department, said, "We made this campus holy by driving away Manik in 1999. Today Manik's successors have tarnished the campus again. The proctor was responsible for the security of our campus. He failed completely.
In the closing speech, Kanoj Kanti Roy, a student of drama and drama theory department, said that Chhatra League has repeated its history of rape. It is not new that Manik raped in 98, his successors are doing today. Proctor helped the rapists escape. They have lost the moral qualification to remain in their posts. This bully was born from the illegal union of the administration and the Chhatra League.
On Monday (January 5) at 11 a.m., the torch procession program concluded with the announcement of the postering program.
