Not only ACC, Secretaries also have responsibility to prevent corruption: PM
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that to prevent corruption the Secretaries also have a role along with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Secretary of the Cabinet Division Md. Mahbub Hossain said that the Prime Minister gave such instructions in the meeting with the secretaries on Monday (February 5). After the meeting, he told reporters at the secretariat.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held her first meeting with secretaries after taking oath as Prime Minister for the fourth consecutive term. The meeting was held in the morning at the Prime Minister's office. The discussion lasted from 10 am to 1.30 pm. Earlier, the Prime Minister had a meeting with the secretaries on November 27, 2022.
Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain said that he has given instructions to take the process that can be taken to monitor the service points that are there to prevent corruption. The Prime Minister reminded the Secretaries of her zero tolerance policy on corruption.
She asked Parliament to take necessary steps to make it effective, aware of the rules of procedure. Especially when writing the answer to the question and answer session or presenting the answer to the supplementary question appropriately. The Prime Minister has ordered the representatives of the respective ministries to be present in the parliament on the day that the question and answer of the ministry will be held.
She also said that the Prime Minister has asked to take vigorous initiatives to increase the rate of tax collection and increase the scope of tax. Still a large number of individuals who are supposed to pay income tax are not covered by income tax. She directed that they should be brought under income tax net. She asked to emphasize on attracting foreign investment. Investment should not be hindered. If there are any complications, she will not tolerate it, she said that she will not take it well.
She directed to facilitate export of jute and jute products, leather and leather products and agricultural products like garments. For this reason, she also told to look for markets in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, East Asia and Africa, especially for medicines, garments, food, agricultural products, jute products. In this case, if assistance is required, assistance should be provided. She asked asked to focus on food production.
Cabinet official said that the Prime Minister has asked to give special importance to technical education. All institutions that exist should be utilized to the maximum extent. She asked to give special attention to training in the service sector. Besides the tourism we have, we need trained manpower all over the world. That is why she asked to take special initiative. She directed the residents of the Ashrayan project to arrange work. She asked to provide support to food preservation and processing industries. The Prime Minister asked to improve the food preservation system. She gave instructions to increase the existing capacity.
