Earlier, in March 2011, the Bangladeshi flag ship MV Jahan Moni was taken hostage by Somali pirates along with 26 sailors. Freed after 3 months, the ship left Somalia for the port of Salalah, Oman.

Before that, ransom money was delivered to Somali pirates in a small plane. After being released, the Captain of the ship, Mohammad Farid, said it on the phone. But he could not tell how much money was paid as ransom.
