Genocide Day observed in Faridpur

A discussion meeting in connection with the observance of worst genocide of March 25, 1971 was held here this morning in the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Faridpur.

Speakers addressing the meeting recollected the history of continuous betrayal of marauding Pakistan army who denied and opposed tooth and nail in transferring power to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who as the Awami League chief secured a landslide victory in 1970 general elections.

Speakers said that instead of transferring power to legitimate authority Bangabandhu, they just wasted time to consolidate their power in East Pakistan to thwart the freedom loving people of this region. Finally they in the midnight of March 25 carried on barbaric attack on the masses. The trigger happy gunners started to kill the Bangalees indiscriminately. It was reported that in the world media at that time about one lakh unarmed people were killed on the first night. In this way the occupation army killed 30 lakh people and violated two lakh women during nine months of liberation war.

The discussion meeting was presided over by DC Md. Qamrul Ahsan Talukdar PAA in his speech criticized those elements who has recently taken up ‘India Boycott’ program. DC Qamrul reminded the contributions of our neighbor India in our great liberation war who in thousands laid down their lives. He assured the freedom fighters present in the meeting to look after their welfare.

Police Super Md. Morshed Alam mentioned the heroic role of Rajarbag police who built first resistance in the night March 25.

It was also addressed among others by valiant freedom fighters Captain Noor Mohammad Babul, Abul Faez, Pourashava Mayor Amitav Bose, educationist Professor Md. Shahjahan, Sadar Upazilla Chairman Abdur Razzaq Molla, District Education Officer Bishnupada Ghoshal and District Ansar Commander Nadira Yasmin. ADC(Gen) Yasin Kabir moderated the meeting.

It was attended among others by freedom fighters, officials and school students.
