Eight students granted bail in Rangpur in night
A court has granted bail to 8 students including HSC examinees who were arrested in connection with the anti-discrimination student movement.
They were released from Rangpur Central Jail on Friday (02 August) around 11:30 pm by court order. Earlier, Rangpur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) FM Ahsanul Haque Rana granted them bail at 8:30 pm.
All of them are between 16 and 17 years old. They are said to have been granted bail on the basis of HSC examination and age.
The students released on bail are Amir Hamza Amir, son of Farooq Mia of Old Truck Stand in the city, Taufiq Omar Dhruba, son of Abu Taher of Kamal Kachna area, Abdullah Ibn Zubair, son of Manzil Hossain of Babukha area, Pavel Mia, son of Abdul Malek of Ashratpur, Bitul Mia, son of New Jummapara of Haragach police station. Niaz Ahmed Rafi, son of Hamidul Islam of Al Marjan, Benughat Mainakuthi, Saurav Miah, son of Rabiul Islam of Bawatari, Kaunia police station.
Amir Hamza's father Farooq said, "If my son has done something wrong, I apologize for him." He is an HSC candidate. May he be released completely?
Manzil Hossain, the father of Abdullah Ibn Zubair, said that the government should not file any more case in the name of the boy.
In this regard, lawyer Jobaidul Islam Bullet said that the court sat at night and granted bail to the students. This is an unprecedented event.
