On Friday 80,599 passengers traveled in metro, income 57 lakhs
Metrorail has gained popularity as a vehicle of relief in the traffic-congested city. Although this high-speed traffic has been closed on Fridays since its inception, Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) authorities have taken the initiative to operate on holidays as well.
This vehicle, the dream of the capital city, started its journey on the weekend of September 20 on the initiative of the authorities. Metrorail transported 80,599 passengers through 60 trips that day. At the same time, it is reported that Tk. 57 lakh 65 thousand 362 has been earned with the sale of MRT pass and single journey tickets.
Authorities said 80,000 people traveled on the Metrorail on Friday, a weekend holiday, as expected. The DMTCL authorities also believe that the number of passengers will gradually increase.
Last Friday (September 20), Metrorail service started on the weekend. On that day at 3:30 p.m., the Metrorail started its journey from Uttara Uttar station to Motijheel. And the journey starts from Motijheel at 3:50 PM.
According to the information provided by the Metrorail Authority, the popular public transport Metrorail of the capital will run seven days a week from now. However, Friday being a holiday, the Metrorail will run from 3:30 PM (Uttara Uttar Station) to 9:40 PM (Motijheel Station).
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director Mohammad Abdur Rauf told Barta24.com that these are subject to analysis when asked about the authority's profit or loss in metro operation on holidays. Hard to say without analysis. But the turnover is good as per our expectations.
He also said that the issue of income and expenditure is relative. Here the money being deposited from the MRT pass, many are depositing Tk. 10 thousand, many are depositing Tk. 5 thousand, many are depositing Tk. 200, the figure is subject to calculation. Which is reflected, like we have MRT passengers, single journey passengers, rapid pass passengers.
He also said that we have sold 1097 MRT passes on Friday. The money from the sale of this MRT pass is not our income. It will remain as miscellaneous. This figure depends a lot on the case. Our total passengers on that day were 80599 people. On that day, the total amount was Tk. 57 lakh 65 thousand 362. But this is not our revenue (profit). Because there are maintenance costs, electricity bills, these cannot be understood in a day. There are also many other cost factors. All in all we have to think about our total electric approach. 1 lakh 59 passengers traveled on Saturday. It's actually more or less. Average is 3 lakhs on an office day.
Mohammad Abdur Rauf said that the metro rail is running all day on Saturday. On Friday, we operated only 60 trips. And the trip was 200 on Saturday. Saturday trips will naturally have more passengers. Today is the first working day of the week again, there will be more passengers today.
He said that last Tuesday (September 17) 3 lakh 23 thousand 834 people were passengers in metro rail. It depends on the traffic of people. After a few weeks, I will understand the results of train movement on Friday because only one Friday has passed. Many people did not know whether the metro rail would run or not. Again, many people are getting to know that the metro rail is running on Friday. Hopefully next Friday we will have more turnovers.
Meanwhile, according to the latest data of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), the controlling and managing body of Metrorail, Metrorail is the mode of movement of about three and a half lakh people every day on a working day.
