Mahmud Khandaker promoted as Foreign Secretary
Dhaka: Additional Foreign Secretary Syed Masud Mahmud Khandaker has been promoted to the post of Foreign Secretary. On Sunday (November 10), the Director General of the Administration Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Md. Nazmul Haque, issued a notification in this regard on the orders of the President.
The notification said that it has been decided to promote Masud Mahmud Khandaker, an officer of the BCS Foreign Affairs cadre, to the post of Secretary/Rector of the Foreign Service Academy/Grade-A, Ambassador (Grade-1). The order mentioned that his promotion order will be effective from October 17.
It is worth noting that Masud Mahmud Khandaker, who went to PRL this month, was previously unconditionally exempted from all the charges raised against him.
This officer of the 10th batch of BCS was deprived of promotion for a long time. Masud Mahmud Khandaker joined the Foreign Service in 1991. He served as Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 1996. From 1996 to 2002, he served as First and Second Secretary and Consular Officer in the Bangladesh Missions in London and Manila. From 2003 to 2005, he served as Deputy Chief of Protocol and Director of the Office of the Foreign Secretary in the Diplomatic Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He later served as Deputy High Commissioner in Ottawa and Acting High Commissioner in that mission from 2007 to 2008. From 2008 to 2009, he served as Deputy High Commissioner of Bangladesh in Kolkata. In 2010, he was appointed Director General of the External Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka. In April 2011, he was appointed Director General of the SAARC and BIMSTEC Division. Later, he was sent as Bangladesh's Ambassador to Qatar.
