Al-Azhar University of Egypt to offer fully-funded scholarships to Bangladeshi students
Al-Azhar University's Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb has announced a fully-funded scholarship for Bangladeshi students.
On Tuesday (November 12) morning, Professor Md. Yunus met with the head of the world's most prestigious Islamic religious institution of Egypt at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
Dr. Yunus was invited by Grand Imam Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb to deliver a lecture at the thousand-year-old institution of Egypt, Al-Azhar University. He also said that Al-Azhar University will announce a fully-funded scholarship for Bangladeshi students.
The Grand Imam said, "We are optimistic about the future of Bangladesh under your leadership. You are a wise man. After the revolution, Bangladesh will reach new heights. I salute you for working with wisdom."
Professor Yunus thanked the Grand Imam for inviting him. He invited the Grand Imam to personally visit Bangladesh after the mass uprising.
In the meeting, the Chief Adviser spoke about the mass uprising and the reform initiatives taken by the interim government.
The Grand Imam expressed his hope that the reform process in Bangladesh would be successful. He praised Professor Yunus' leadership, his social service, the pioneering role of Grameen Bank as a microfinance institution, and his lifelong efforts to combat poverty.
Professor Yunus expressed his gratitude to Al-Azhar University and presented 'The Art of Triumph', a collection of colorful and diverse graffiti paintings painted by students on the walls of the capital Dhaka during the anti-discrimination student movement in Bangladesh in July-August.
The Grand Imam praised the artistic skills of the students of Bangladesh. He also praised the merits of Bangladeshi students studying at Al-Azhar University to the Chief Adviser.
