BNP fights for the people, not for power: Selina Rahman
Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Selina Rahman said, BNP fights for the people, not for power. It fights for the welfare of the people.
She said these things at a discussion meeting organized at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club on Monday (November 25) to welcome BNP Chairperson's Adviser Mahidur Rahman on the occasion of his return to the country and demand the withdrawal of false cases against all politicians including National Leader Begum Khaleda Zia and BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. The discussion meeting was organized by the 'Mahidur Rahman Homecoming Organizing Committee'.
Selina Rahman said, you see autocratic governments have filed false cases against Shaheed Zia, Begum Khaleda Zia has been harassing everyone. Tarique Rahman was also harassed numerous false cases against him. How many leaders have disappeared, murdered in 17 years. How many things have happened to us? Even then, BNP is repeatedly standing by the people with these false cases.
He said, today we must remember that reform means reforming the country, the state; political parties must also reform. Many people stand behind their speeches and take pictures; I want to say that this picture will not be of any use. If we cannot do anything, if we cannot do good for the people. We must remember that our national leader Khaleda Zia has suffered a lot, yet she has not given up. She said save the country, save the people. That is why she fought her whole life.
The students' quota movement was the main one and then it turned into a one-point movement. Many mothers lost their children in that movement. Many sons lost their fathers. Today, many are injured; we still do not know their future. Efforts are being made to heal them so that they can be given a future. We have not been able to enjoy the full taste of that freedom that we have gained after so much suffering because some conspirators of the autocratic government repeatedly destroyed it.
She also said that Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other leaders and activists of Awami League are trying to create instability in Bangladesh by creating chaos by staying in India and other countries.
Selima Rahman said that the goal for which the anti-discrimination activists have been agitating, BNP, has been agitating for the last 17 years to restore the rights of the people has not yet been achieved. Yes, we have a government. They are trying to work. But the dictator who fled and took refuge in a neighboring country is making phone calls every day from there. All the Awami League leaders who have fled are creating chaos by misleading the people of the country so that instability is created in this country.
Under the chairmanship of Central BNP member Md. Farida Yasmin and the convener of the Mahidur Rahman Homecoming Organizing Committee Md. Sarwar Hossain Rubel, BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Swechachasebak Dal Affairs Secretary Mir Sarfat Ali Sapu, among others, were also present at the event.
