We have no alternative but a good election: EC Sanaullah
Dhaka: We have no alternative but a good election. Allah Almighty has sent us here, said Election Commissioner Brigadier General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah.
He made this comment after a meeting with EC Secretariat officials at the Agargaon Election Building on Monday (November 25) afternoon.
After the meeting, Election Commissioner Bri. General (Retd.) Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah said, after assuming office as new commissioner, I got acquainted with the officials today. The circumstances in which this government was formed were highlighted. The expectations of the nation and what we want were discussed. Our demand is very simple. A good election.
Sanaullah said, the CEC has given guidelines to the officials in discharging our duties. There was a discussion on integrity, honesty, and accountability.
When asked what kind of challenges he feels in fulfilling his responsibilities, he said, "We, the commission collectively, think more than the challenge, we think it is an opportunity. There is definitely a challenge. We are here to face the challenge. We think it is an opportunity because the nation has come to a crossroads where we have no other option but to hold a good election. And we are the people whom Allah has appointed and sent here to deliver this expectation. We are confident that we will deliver it. That is why we are committed."
Newly appointed Election Commissioner Sanaullah also said, "We are going through a political process. I am sure that you may have heard the Chief Adviser's statement about that process - that the objective of this government is to hold elections as soon as possible. However, the reform programs that have been undertaken must be. Everyone's objective is to go to the elections. We will talk about the elections at the appropriate time."
When asked about the perception of participating in the elections, he said, "It is not just a responsibility. It is our responsibility. Insha Allah, we will fulfill this responsibility." We are all satisfied. We feel blessed and proud that we were elected through a transparent process.
