Three colleges in the capital have attacked and counter-attacked over the death of a college student at the National Medical College in the capital. As a result, the infrastructure of the Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College have been damaged, as well as the certificates and mark sheets of thousands of students, who have lost their necessary documents.
About 40 people were injured in the retaliatory attacks by the college students and have been receiving treatment at various medical centers in the capital, including Dhaka Medical College. In addition, Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College has suffered a loss of about Tk. 60 crore, claimed Principal Obaidullah Nayan.
It is known that while protesting in front of the National Medical demanding that a classmate die due to wrong treatment, some students of Kabi Nazrul and Suhrawardy College attacked the protesting students of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Molla College. Several people were also injured in the attack.
However, as the Suhrawardy College administration did not take any action against the attackers, on November 24, students of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College and several other colleges in the capital attacked the National Medical College, Kabi Nazrul Government College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College.
After this attack, the National Medical College authorities said that the students led the attack and vandalized the administrative office, outpatient department, emergency department, emergency department, dental department, pathology department of the National Hospital. Domestic and foreign students, general patients and officials and employees were attacked inside the hospital. The Pubali Bank branch, which is engaged in the financial services of the hospital, was also extensively vandalized.
In addition, the hospital authorities have claimed a loss of about Tk. 10 crore to the National Medical College.
National Hospital Director Prof Brig. General. (Retd.) Dr Iffat Ara said, it is equal to begging for the services of a doctor from his patient. In the case of Abhijit, a student of Dr. Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, he did not fail. We tried our best to serve him. But despite all this, doctors have been accused of false accusations. Despite forming an investigation committee as demanded by the students and patients' relatives, the hospital authorities could not investigate due to the incompetence of the student representatives.
On the other hand, the government Shaheed Suhrawardy College has also been reduced to rubble as a result of the attack. On the spot, it was seen that every room of the three-story building of the institution has been vandalized. All the furniture including computers and printers have been destroyed. Important certificates of thousands of students of the institution, including various necessary documents, are lying around the campus.
On going to the most important room of the college, the record room on the second floor, it was seen that thousands of papers of students' certificates, mark sheets and registrations are scattered. The staff is trying to sort out the damaged papers.
Office assistant Md. Emdad, who works in the record room, said, the attackers have done the most damage to the students. They have destroyed their life's achievement certificates and mark sheets. I have also found many mark sheets from the street. Since the establishment of the college, all the papers had been preserved in our record room. But they finished everything.
When asked about the damage to this educational institution in Old Dhaka due to the students' attack, Principal Dr. Kakli Mukherjee said, "Our classes were closed on the day of the incident. There were no students from our college. However, the National University exam, which is the center of our college exams, was going on. The attack took place at this time. The attackers beat up our teachers and examinees. In addition to the damage to our infrastructure due to the attack, the damage caused is that important documents of the students have been destroyed. Especially the achievement certificates and mark sheets of the students' educational life have been destroyed. In addition, many documents including the property documents of our college have been destroyed. We have to work hard and be harassed to collect them. The college was earlier affiliated to Dhaka University. Later, it was affiliated to the National University again. It came to DU again. I don't understand how to get all these documents and students' papers.
However, apart from the breaking of some window panes of a building across the street, there was no significant damage to another educational institution, Kabi Nazrul Government College. Some glass bricks at the back of building 'A' were damaged. There were no students in this college at the time of the incident. However, some students were injured as the National University exams were going on.
An attempt was made to contact the college principal, Professor Mohammad Habibur Rahman, to find out about the damage and injuries to students in the attack. However, he refused to talk, citing his busy schedule.
Meanwhile, a case has been filed with Sutrapur Police Station in connection with the attack on three institutions in Old Dhaka. 8,000 students have been named as accused in the case.
When asked about this, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of Wari Division of DMP Jasim Uddin said, the police have filed a case in connection with the attack on two colleges and the National Hospital. Several police personnel were injured and one of our APCs was vandalized in the incident that day. However, no one has been arrested so far.
