Studentship of the 'accused' of lawyer's murder cancelled

The private BGC Trust University authorities have cancelled the studentship of a student named Shuvo Kanti Das after a picture of his being involved in the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram went viral on social media. Shuvo was a 4th semester student of the 36th batch of the university's law department.

A notice signed by BGC Trust University's registrar, Dr. SM Shoaib, informed about this.

The notice said that the decision was taken at a meeting of the department's academic committee held on Wednesday (November 27).

Earlier, a picture of a group of youths with country-made weapons in their hands went viral on Facebook. His acquaintances confirmed that one of the people in the picture is Shuvo Kanti Das. Another video that went viral shows that the youths in the picture participated in the murder of Alif. The university authorities took this disciplinary action against Shuvo after receiving preliminary evidence of his involvement in the murder.

Meanwhile, the Office of the Chief Adviser said that six people detained as suspects in the murder of Saiful Islam have been identified through video footage.

The Facebook post said that the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has detained at least six people suspected of the murder. The six people have been identified through video footage.
