Fire in temporary court at Alia Madrasa, students block road
A room of the special court set up at Alia Madrasa grounds in Bakshibazar in the capital has been set on fire.
A fire service vehicle was stationed outside the madrasa, but it could not conduct any activities because the two main gates were locked. Some papers, documents and furniture were burnt in the fire.
The incident took place in the dark on Thursday (January 9) morning, according to the Chawkbazar Police.
The students are now blocking the road and protesting in the presence of the police, demanding that the trial be stopped and the Alia grounds be opened for students.
On Thursday (January 9) morning, the madrasa students blocked the road. A large number of police personnel have been deployed at the scene to normalize the situation and control law and order. In addition, a team of the army has also reached the scene.
The students of Alia Madrasa alleged that educational activities are disrupted when the trial is going on inside the madrasa grounds. They have not paid any attention to them even after complaining to the ministry several times before. Students blocked the road today in protest.
After an overnight movement on Wednesday (January 8), they protested by burning tires and taking up positions on the road on Thursday morning. They have warned that they will not leave the road until their demands are met.
In this regard, Chawkbazar Police Station OC Rezaul Hossain said that the police are stationed inside Alia Madrasa. The police are alert to maintain law and order. Meanwhile, students are protesting outside by blocking the road. The students are demanding that the court here be shifted and the Alia Madrasa grounds be opened.
The OC said that the Alia Madrasa premises had two very large gates locked. There was a fire service vehicle outside. This morning in the dark, someone or someone set fire to a court room. Some documents and furniture were burnt.
It is not known who did the act and the fire service did not have to do anything. Although the OC claimed that the court set up in this madrasa was almost completely damaged on August 5.
OC Rezaul said that higher authorities are present at the scene, and the army is also present. The authorities of the temporary court established are coming here and then a solution or decision will be made.
It is worth noting that although the Ministry of Law has given instructions to start the trial today, the students are not allowing the police and APBN members to enter the temporary court located there. Their demand is that the ground of Alia Madrasa is for the students. The prison authorities have been illegally occupying the ground and conducting the court there for a long time. They want to liberate the ground.
The students participating in the movement said that if the issue of the ground is not resolved within the next hour, the students will coordinate and launch a strong movement.
