ACC files two cases against Nixon Chowdhury and his wife
Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed two cases against former Faridpur-4 MP Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury alias Nixon Chowdhury and his wife Tarin Hossain.
The cases were filed at the ACC's Dhaka Integrated District Office on Thursday (January 9).
The case has been filed on charges of unusual transactions of Tk. 3,162 crore in the bank accounts of Nixon Chowdhury and his wife and acquiring illegal assets of about Tk. 19.5 crore.
A three-member team led by ACC Deputy Director Md. Salahuddin has worked to investigate the allegations. Earlier, the court had banned Nixon and his wife from traveling abroad.
The complaint states that Nixon Chowdhury exerted influence in Faridpur-4 constituency by taking advantage of his relationship with former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He earned huge money by illegally extracting and selling sand from the Arial Khan River and the Padma River. In addition, he is accused of grabbing land and deeding it. The complaint states that he and his family have registered about 1,100 bighas of land in Bhanga and surrounding areas of Faridpur in their names.
The ACC has initiated legal proceedings regarding these cases.
