Jubo League leader killed in A.League-BNP clash in Lalmonirhat

During dawn to dusk hartal called by BNP, chases, counter chases and clashes took place between A-League and BNP in different places of Lalmonirhat. A Jubo League leader named Langra Jahangir was killed and eight Awami League leaders were seriously injured in the clash.

At this time, five vehicles belonging to police and journalist were vandalized.

On Sunday (October 29) morning, Jahangir, who was seriously injured in the clash in the area adjacent to the railway gate of Mahendranagar Union of Sadar Upazila, died while being taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. District AwamiLeague Deputy Publicity and Publication Secretary Mehdi Hasan confirmed the matter.

Locals said that in support of the hartal, Awami League leaders prevented BNP leaders and activists from going to the ground for picketing in Mahendranagar Union of Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila. Later, a chase and a bloody clash took place between the two groups. At that time, Jubo League leader Langra Jahangir and Swechsevak League leader Raju Ahmed were seriously injured in the attack by BNP picketers. Later they were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where Jubo League leader Jahangir succumbed to his injuries.

Apart from this, when BNP workers tried to picket in the district town, Awami League blocked it. However, some activists of the BNP carried out a sneak attack and vandalized 3/4 motorcycles including one journalist's car.

Meanwhile, when BNP leaders and activists came to the ground to protest and picket at Mission mor in the district town in the morning, the strikers were chased by the police and dispersed. Ordinary commuters were seen walking and taking auto rickshaws during the strike. All types of vehicles including long distance buses from Lalmonirhat are stopped.

When the BNP leaders gathered at the BNP office in Aditmari upazila of the district to picket in support of the strike, the local Awami League leaders vandalized the BNP office. Several people were injured in the clash between the two groups. Also, clashes between Awami League and BNP took place in Hatibandha, Kaliganj and Saptibari of Aditmari upazila in the district.

Meanwhile, when news of Jubo League leader Jahangir's death spread in the district tension was seen among Awami League leaders and activists. In protest of this, the General Secretary of the District Awami League Advocate. Matiar Rahman announced a protest rally in the afternoon at the BDR gate of the district town. The residents of the district feel that bloody clashes can happen again at any time.

According to Lalmonirhat District Police, additional police have been deployed at different points of the district so that there is no deterioration of law and order in the district.
