The 12th Jatiya Sangsad(JS)election is imminent. The Election Commission(EC) has already prepared all the work around the election and given the schedule. The ruling party Awami League has finished selling its nomination papers and is about to announce names of the final candidate. However, policy-making leaders face challenges in selecting candidates. It has increased the challenge of party strife.

Overcoming all challenges, the members of the Parliamentary Nomination Board sat in the office of Dhaka District Awami League in Tejgaon on Thursday (November 23) under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister. Final nomination of 72 candidates of Rangpur and Rajshahi districts were completed on this day. But you have to wait till Saturday to get the list.

At the end of the meeting, the members of the nomination board and the general secretary of Awami League said, 'Several members of parliament have been excluded from the nomination this time. Also, family feuds, disagreements between ministers and local leaders with members of parliament, brother with brother, father with son, brother with sister, uncle with nephew or husband with wife have contested nominations. However, the top leaders of Awami League said that there is nothing to worry about. They said, Awami League is a big party. As such, it is natural that there will be disagreements between the leaders. There is nothing to worry about. Once the party candidate is finalized, all conflicts will be resolved. The leaders of the party tried to reassure, but a different picture was seen at the field level. As the country's main opposition party BNP did not participate in the elections, the conflict between them is increasing in the power struggle. Central leaders in the face of challenges:

Shajahan Khan, Member of Parliament and Presidium member for 7 consecutive times from Madaripur-2 Constituency, may have to face the ordeal this time. 4 central leaders including Bahauddin Nashim, Joint General Secretary of Central Awami League, are competing with him from this seat.

Two central leaders of Awami League are also seeking nomination in Faridpur-1 seat. Awami League presidium member Md. Abdur Rahman and central Awami League advisory council member Kazi Sirajul Islam will fight for nomination in this seat.

Presidium member of Awami League, former member of parliament Kazi Zafarullah and current member of parliament Jubo League presidium member Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon want nomination for Faridpur-4 (Bhanga, Sadarpur, Charbhadrasan) seat. Earlier, Kazi Zafarullah was nominated for this seat, but current Member of Parliament Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon defeated him in independent elections. We will have to wait till Saturday to see who finally gets nominated for the seat.

Kushtia-3 (Sadar) Constituency has bought Awami League's nomination paper Barrister M. Ameer-ul-Islam. Another heavyweight central leader Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub ul Alam Hanif will fight with this heavyweight candidate.

Professionals in the nomination race:

Present Member of Parliament and Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal seeks nomination from Comilla-10 (Sadar South, Lalmai, Nangalkot) seat. On the contrary, Naeem Nizam, editor of Bangladesh Protidin daily, has collected nomination papers for this constituency. The fate of Naeem Nizam may open due to the illness of the finance minister and inaction in the ministry.

13 people have collected nomination forms in the Barisal-3 seat. Awami League leader Atiqur Rahman Atiq is at the forefront of discussion as a candidate supported by grass root activists and supporters. Apart from this, as a new candidate, the organizing secretary of Central Jubo League and President of Jagannath University Political Science Alumni Association Md. Zahir Uddin Khosru is in the eyes of the voters.

Comilla-1 (Daudkandi-Titas) Constituency Awami League ticket hopeful Eng. Md. Abdus Sabur. He is the Science and Technology Secretary of the Central Executive Committee of Awami League and the President of Engineers Institution. The current Member of Parliament of this seat is Mohammad Subid Ali Bhuiyan. Although he has been elected from the seat for three consecutive times, the voters say that he will have to face tough competition this time.

New ones leave behind the present ones:

In Dhaka-13 (Mohammedpur, Adabar and Sher Bangla Nagar), the nomination war has intensified. Two heavyweight candidates, Awami League presidium member Jahangir Kabir Nanak and metropolitan Awami League leader Sheikh Bajlur Rahman, are seeking nomination in this seat by pressuring the current member of parliament Sadek Khan.

Barisal-5 (Sadar) Current Member of Parliament and Minister of State Colonel (Retd.) Zahid Farooq Shamim. There is a lot of buzz that the former mayor of Barisal City Corporation, Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, is going to get nominated for the seat. Besides, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, a member of Awami League's Presidium Board, also took nomination papers from this seat. However, he said that he did not submit it later.

Omar Farooq Chowdhury, the current Member of Parliament and former Minister of State for Industries, has again nominated to contest Rajshahi-1 (Godagari-Tanore) seat. A member of the sub-committee on industry and commerce of his arch-rival Awami League and Rajshahi-6 , Ayesha Akhtar Jahan Dalia, wife of State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Member of Parliament.

Current Member of Parliament for Brahmanbaria-5 (Nabinagar) Constituency is Ebadul Karim Bulbul, Managing Director of Beacon Pharmaceuticals. Here as his strong rival is former Member of Parliament and president of upazila Awami League Faizur Rahman. Besides, he may lose the seat in the alliance game. Chairman of Hussain Muhammad Ershad Trust and former presidium member of Jatiya Party Kazi Mohammad Mamunur Rashid wants nomination from here. There are strong rumors that Awami League will give up the seat for the alliance candidate. Earlier in 2014, the party had left the seat for JSD candidate Shah Zikrul Ahmad.

The current MP in Feni-1 (Phulghazi, Parashuram and Chagalnaya) constituency is General Secretary of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal Shirin Akhtar. However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's former protocol officer Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim is also seeking the seat. In that case, Alauddin Ahmed Chowdhury Nasim can get the boat symbol if the alliance is not clear.

In Kishoreganj-2 (Katiadi-Pakundia) Constituency, the discussed police officer Abdul Kahhar Akand wants the boat symbol. He is the investigating officer of the Bangabandhu murder case. He was also the investigating officer in the August 21, 2004 grenade attack and Pilkhana murder cases. The current Member of Parliament for this seat is ex-IG of Police Noor Mohammad. Also, many other heavyweights including , former MP and industrialist are in the nomination race from the seat. Therefore, the forehead of the current Member of Parliament Noor Mohammad can burn.

Controversy over the nomination:

Three sons of the late former Member of Parliament (Member of Parliament) Afaz Uddin Ahmed have bought the party nomination form of Awami League to be a candidate for boat from Kushtia-1 (Daulatpur) seat. They are the elder son Professor Nazmul Huda Patal Biswas, the younger son Arif Ahmed Biswas and the another son Advocate Ejaz Ahmed Mamun Biswas. No one wants to give concessions in the nomination fight.

Four members of the same family have collected nomination papers from the Thakurgaon-2 (Baliadangi-Haripur) constituency. District Awami League President Dabirul. His elder son and District Awami League Organizing Secretary Principal Mazharul Islam Sujan, second brother Upazila Awami League President and former Upazila Chairman Mohammad Ali and nephew Baliadangi Upazila Parishad Chairman and Upazila Jubo League General Secretary Ali Aslam Jewel.

 

Four family members of former MP Shamsur Rahman Sharif Dilu have taken nomination papers from Pabna-4 (Ishwardi-Atgharia) constituency. Among them, two sons of this former Member of Parliament, Ghalibur Rahman Sharif, Sakibur Rahman Sharif, elder daughter Mahjebin Shirin Pia and son-in-law Abul Kalam Azad Mintu submitted nomination papers of Awami League.

Awami League's current parliament member Haji Salim and his two sons Sulaiman Salim and Irfan Salim have taken nomination papers from Dhaka-7 constituency. Rumor has it, he has also bought nominations for his two sons, who have been convicted in corruption cases and accused of land grabbing. He does not want to lose the seat in any way.

Resignation as Upazilla chairmen:

Sohail Sarwar Kajal has resigned from the post of Chairman of Ramu Upazila Parishad to get nomination of Awami League for Cox's Bazar-3 (Sadar, Ramu and Eidgaon) parliamentary seats. Saimum Sarwar Kamal is the current Member of Parliament of this constituency.

Shalla Upazila Parishad Chairman Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mahmud (Al-Amin) has resigned to get nomination for Sunamganj-2 (Dirai-Shalla) seat. Jaya Sen Gupta is the current Member of Parliament for this seat. Also five others have taken nomination papers to get boats.

Brahmanbaria Sadar Upazila Chairman Lion Ferozur Rahman Olio has resigned in the hope of nomination for Brahmanbaria-3 seat. The current Member of Parliament of the constituency is RM Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury. He is also the president of the district Awami League.

Also, there are many calculations going on between the parties regarding the 12th JS elections. Candidates are also doing various exercises to prove their popularity. We have to wait till Saturday to finish all calculations. Wait until then.
