Phone call of ARO prevents Minister from arranging motor bike showdown
Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed MP, the ‘boatman’ of Lalmonirhat-2 (Kaliganj-Aditmari) seat, forced to cancel the motorcycle showdown on the phone of the Assistant Returning Officer and did a victory rally on foot.
On Tuesday (December 19) afternoon, the rally took off from the Aditmari GS Model Government High School ground in Lalmonirhat, went around different roads and met again at the same place. Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed MP, candidate for Lalmonirhat-2 constituency, led the rally.
Social welfare minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed will be contesting the voting in Lalmonirhat-2 seat as the nominated candidate of Awami League in the upcoming 12th JS election, activists and locals said. Aditmari Upazila Awami League organized a victory rally in a motorcycle showdown on Tuesday afternoon. The coming leaders and activists claimed that the victory rally was also announced to circumambulate 8 unions of the entire upazila. Therefore, hundreds of thousands of leaders and workers of 8 unions of the upazila gathered in the Aditmari GS Model Government High School and College ground before noon with hundreds of motorcycles and supporters of boat workers.
Assistant Returning Officer Upazila Nirbahi Officer Noor Alam Siddiqui cautioned Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed over the phone about the news that a massive showdown is being prepared in the name of Vijay Rally. Later the ‘boatman’ Social Welfare Minister withdrew from the motorcycle showdown. After giving a short speech in that field, he made a victory rally on foot.
Earlier, the organizing secretary of the Upazila Awami League, the minister's assistant personnel officer Mizanur Rahman Mizan told the activists that the election code of conduct may be violated, so we will conduct the victory rally on a short scale and on foot as per the instructions of the minister. He called on the leaders and activists not to give any slogan of the boat.
After the ceremony, Minister’s assistant personal officer Mizanur Rahman Mizan said, "Our minister is very confident in honoring law." Showdowns may violate electoral conduct rules. So the victory rally has been short range.
