Salahuddin Ahmed returned home after 9 years

Dhaka: BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed returned home after 9 years of detention in India.

He arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Sunday (August 11) at 2 pm.

According to BNP sources, the plane carrying him left for Dhaka from Delhi Airport in India at 11 o'clock.

On March 10, 2015, Salahuddin Ahmed went missing from Uttara in the capital. Salahuddin was reportedly rescued by local police in Shillong, Meghalaya, India on May 11 after 63 days of disappearance.

He was arrested by the Meghalaya Police Station under the Foreigners Act for allegedly entering India without valid documents. On July 22 of the same year, a charge of trespassing was formally framed against him in a lower court of India.

When the BNP came to power in 1991, Salahuddin was the Assistant Private Secretary to then Prime Minister Khaleda Zia. Later he left government job and joined BNP. He was elected Member of Parliament from Cox's Bazar in 2001.
