Some political parties are following the path of A.League: GM Quader
Dhaka: Jatiya Party Chairman Gholam Mohammad Quader commented that some political parties are following the path of Awami League, which is not good for change.
On Thursday (September 12), he spoke as the chief guest at a view exchange meeting with the Jatiya Krishak Party at the Jatiya Party Banani office.
He said, the nation is going through a transitional period. A great opportunity for change has arrived. Our national life is witnessing drastic changes in various fields. There needs to be an idea of what we are doing in politics, what we have done in the past and what we will do in the future.
He also said that the opponents of Jatiya Party have been trying to destroy us since ‘90. We are being tortured and slandered in different ways. We were always with the people, never a friend of anyone. We have always worked for the people. Because of which, even after 37 years, Jatiya Party has survived among the people.
He said, after coming to the parliament, our members of parliament have been harassed in various ways. H.M. Ershad had been called a dictator. This is a very undemocratic attitude. Those who call H.M. Ershad, a dictator, is a person with an undemocratic attitude. Rule by the people means rule by the will of the people.
He also said that the people did not accept the attempt to cancel the caretaker system in the 1996 elections. We were in the movement for the people. Awami League and Jamaat were with us. Later, when the election was held, we all elected separately. Since the people were not in favor of BNP during the formation of the government, we supported the Awami League. The Awami League came to power and misused its power in various ways. While the BNP was in power, they did not allow us to enter the field, destroyed our party office, attacked and blocked our meeting and issued section 144 in our meeting. Still we did well in ‘96.
GM Quader said, Awami League, BNP, Jatiya Party all participated in the 2018 elections. We supported Awami League instead of BNP due to fear of existential crisis due to ideological reasons. Even after having affinity with Awami League, we protested their injustice and oppression. We were forced to go to the polls in 2024 with various tricks. Despite promising free and fair elections with us, it was not kept in the elections. If we did not participate in the election, the election would not have taken place or the election would not have been valid.
He said that our leaders and workers are being accused of cases with Awami League in various places. It is not desirable at all. We were with the people. People hoped for change and overthrew the Awami government with their blood.
