Not a constitutional reform, this constitution should be rewritten to suit the demands of the student masses of Bangladesh, said Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin, Naib-e-Amir of Dhaka Metropolitan South of Jamaat-e-Islami.

He said these things at an open discussion titled ‘State Reform Aspiration and Constitution’ organized by the Gana Shakti Sabha at the Tafazzal Hossain Manik Mia Hall of the National Press Club on Wednesday (January 1).

Advocate Dr. Helal Uddin said that their (BNP) statement is that the people of Bangladesh do not understand reform. If the people of Bangladesh did not understand reform, then why did they give their lives and become martyrs. Did the people give their lives knowing this? The people gave their blood and became martyrs for reform.

The Jamaat leader said that those who played a role in ’75 to overthrow the fascism of ’72, were hanged again, which is unfortunate for the nation. This is not a constitutional reform; this constitution should be rewritten to suit the demands of the student people of Bangladesh.

He also said that a constitution that cannot provide justice cannot survive in Bangladesh. We will tell those who will cry for mercy for this constitution that they are not for Bangladesh. They are for India.

Addressing BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, this Jamaat leader said that today he talked big about boycotting Indian products. In front of this press club, he set fire to Indian products, boycotted them; and secretly conspired with India. We condemn it. Those who will try to create a rift among the student people are from India. The people of Bangladesh are now united. The student population of Bangladesh is united against India. Those who want to fall into the trap set by India and want to create a rift among the public will not accept it in any way.

Other members of the Ganashakti Sabha were present at the time.
