Dhaka: Explaining the interview given to BBC, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, we see that the interim government is not able to play a neutral role in some issues. Therefore, we request, we hope that the interim government will play a neutral role.

He said this as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the 56th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Asad at the National Press Club auditorium on Thursday (January 23) afternoon.

He said, I said in response to a journalist's question that a neutral government is needed, I said this because we see that the interim government is not able to play a neutral role in some issues. Therefore, we request, we hope, we hope that the interim government will play a neutral role. It will fulfill its responsibility to free the country from the crisis.

Stating that we have been deprived of elections for almost 15 years, the BNP Secretary General said, through this election, our people will get an opportunity to appoint a representative. Now, if the issue is forced to be controversial, then the people will be deprived of their voting rights again. We have seen from our experience that if such elections are not held quickly, if time is wasted, then other forces will rise up. Then the people's demands are completely deprived of those demands.

Mirza Fakhrul said, we want to say this again and again, our expectations from the interim government that is in place now are high. Naturally, after a student uprising, the people's expectations have increased a lot. But unfortunately, it is true that in the situation that has arisen so far, we cannot be sure that the expectations will be fulfilled.

He said, there are many things here, every political party has different programs, there are programs, everyone agrees on those programs, an election needs to be held. Elections are not just to send a party to power; the election is to create a path to a democratic system. Today, the question of going to the election after all the reforms has been raised. So will we wait for 4/5 years? Will the people wait until complete reforms are made? They will be deprived of their right to vote, the senior BNP leader added.

He said, we still see that the bureaucracy is still playing its role in the same way as before, starting from the secretariat and all the administrations. There has been no change. Education in universities has completely stopped; education is not being done in schools and colleges. The health system has almost collapsed. These have come from the past. It is not possible to change them in such a short time.

Mirza Fakhrul said, that is why we are saying that elections need to be held quickly. If elections are held quickly, the government that comes will definitely be responsible for fulfilling the political commitments that they have.

BNP Chairperson's Adviser Aman Ullah Aman, Zahir Uddin Swapan, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon, Chief Coordinator of the Gano Sanghati Andolon Jonayed Saki and Shaheed Asad's brother Dr. Azizullah M. Nuruzzaman Noor were also present at the discussion.
