Awami League is now more united and strong enough to face any type of conspiracy by BNP and Jamaat, Awami League Acting General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif has said.

“Party’s root level is now stronger than any time in the past and we have ability to thwart any conspiracy of BNP-Jamaat,” he said, addressing a meeting at the party’s central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

AL South City unit organised the meeting with its president Abul Hasnat in the chair.

Hanif said: “Military-backed caretaker government arrested AL President Sheikh Hasina from her Sudhasadan residence on July 16. The plot was created before by BNP.”

“The 1/11 was created for BNP as they didn’t want to quit the power. They staged an election without voters on February 15, 1996,” he added.

The AL leader said there are conspiracies in the country’s politics always. “Not only in Bangladesh but also in the world every government faces conspiracies. We are also facing the challenges,” he said.

Hanif said Awami League is a party of the common people. There is no political strength in the country to resist AL, he added.

AL Information and Research Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain and executive member Advocate Kamrul Islam, MP, addressed the meeting as special guests while Organizing Secretary and Deputy Education Minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel addressed it as the key speaker.

Awami League's joint general secretary and foreign minister said that there have been repeated attempts to kill Sheikh Hasina. Hasan Mahmud said that despite repeated attempts to kill her, she was not disoriented. She was always uncompromising for the common people of this country. Sheikh Hasina has chosen the death of Bengal. She never backed down from a fight for fear of death. Rather, she had returned to the people of Bengal with more conviction.

He said this while addressing a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the 44th Homecoming Day of Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the district Awami League office in Tejgaon on Friday (May 17) afternoon.

Referring to the Prime Minister as a role model for development around the world, he said, BNP is now disoriented after seeing these developments. And there are some renegade politicians today who talk about different things. I don't, many people say they are the roar of fox. BNP has decided not to participate in all elections as it wants to obstruct democracy. Today, they are not participating in any election, not even the chairman and members of the Union Parishad. They are expelling anyone who participates.

Commenting that Sheikh Hasina has become a world leader, the foreign minister said that she has achieved the world leadership. Wars are raging everywhere, including the Russia-Ukraine war. She has become the voice of oppressed people against him.

Hasan Mahmud commented that Sheikh Hasina has taken the responsibility of the Awami League in a difficult time, and said that she decided to become the president by taking life in her hands. Ziaur Rahman made many conspiracies that day so that she could not come. He also prevented the gathering of people to be less.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has commented that BNP will not find an escape route if it starts terror in the name of movement.

He said these things at a briefing at the Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi on Monday (May 13) afternoon.

He said, there is no record of running away in the history of Awami League. In 2007, the Acting Chairman of BNP, Tariq Rahman, fled abroad with a pledge that he would not do politics again. Their main leader is on the run.

He also said that BNP had said on October 28 that Awami League will not get an escape route. In the end, I saw that the BNP is the one who ran away from where it ran. We have no record of escape. BNP will have to flee if they start terror in the name of movement.

Obaidul Quader said, "If they (BNP) want to move forward politically, we will also deal with it politically." If they do terror again, we will deal in the same way. I don't want to say anything about it beforehand.

Awami League Joint General Secretary Bahauddin Nasim, Organizing Secretary BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam, SM Kamal Hossain, Afzal Hossain, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap, Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan and others were also present.
